AWOL

Hello peoples, I know I seem to have just vanished for a bit but at least I’ve been busy. Currently I am sat installing XP onto a notebook type effort and can’t really go anywhere until what’s-her-name shows up for it… I’m gonna be so behind with my equpitment audit…

Sooo what have I been up to? Lots and not a lot at the same time is technically the right answer. I’ve been working on a site for a band (Call-To-Arms) you may have read my post which mentioned them back many moons ago, still got loads more to do on that. Well, I have the gallery to fill, which is annoying and time consuming but ultimately rewarding when you see the finished product. Working on my own site, doing little bits and peices here and there, work-work as well, currently on the half-term so we have loads of stuff to keep us busy, mine is an equiptment audit which feels like it will take into next month to do.

Meh, better get back to it I suppose…

New Job!

Who here has watched ‘The IT Crowd’? Well, for those who haven’t; is a British sitcom, written by Graham Linehan and produced by Ash Atalla for Channel 4. The IT Crowd is set in the offices of Reynholm Industries, a fictitious British corporation in central London. It focuses on the shenanigans of a three-strong IT support team located in a dingy, untidy basement. This isn’t a review of the series, but more a contrast between the show and my brand new job!

Recently I quit my job as a Study Support Assistant at Helston Community College, as it was squashing my chances of employment due to the ridiculous times and the fact that I needed more money and working hours. As I was walking past the office of the Headteacher, he happened to be walking out and pretty much just gave me a job! This doesn’t happen, surely. Apparently it does. I’m now an IT Technician of Helston College! Now, what the bloody hell does that have to do with The IT Crowd? I’ll tell you…

IT’S EXACTLY WHAT MY WORK IS LIKE! A group of whiter than milk nerds, sitting around and begrudgingly fixing computers, occasionally doing something utterly ridiculous and hilarious. The only thing missing is an answer phone that says ‘Hello, IT  Department; have you tried turning it off and on again?’ I think that we should get one of those. It may seem rude and dismissive to people when we say that, but the truth is that 90% of problems can be solved by a simple restart. Owing to the fact that the programs and updates are on a network, for computers to pick these fixes and programs up, they need restarting to request the new software.

There are obviously times when we are needed to go and have a look and most problems are easy fixes, I was thinking of making a FAQ for teachers and staff but then I realised that I’d be working myself out of a job, and seeing as I have only just got the bloody thing, that would be a really bad idea.

Anyway, that’s my new job. What’s new/coming up? Oh yes! PillowMint Radio, kinda like a podcast, but not really. There will be music and interviews and allsorts going on. I’m just off now to record some more stuff :P

Speak again soon

Blue Fury

Well, this weekend was strange to say the least, but a lot of good came out of it. Got a lot of info regarding my career and stuff so, hopefully, this time next year I’ll be in Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. There just seems to be something very rewarding being a police officer, tackling crime and ensuring a safe environment for the community as well as providing eduacation for the youth of tomorrow. Wow that all sounds so wierd coming out of my mouth. Well my fingers, but I do read aloud what I type (sometimes).

Anyway, another quick one and back to work,

Adios

Señor Martín Juan Toy (not exactly a very Spanish last name but sod it)

Sunshine Lollipops, Rainbows…. (God I hate that song)

Morning,

You ever had an extremely annoying song stuck in your head for like two days? I’ve had 3. Mainly my fault for having an extremely annoying and head sticking in music library, and partially my mates fault for having the Ghostbusters theme in his head for ages…

Anyway, I digress, It seems to me that the general population of youth have suddenly become sugar crazed imbeciels. This morning, just sat nice and quietly, thinking and dreaming my dreamy little dreams, when the joy is broken like someone lighting a french banger in church with an enquiry about the colour of plums. Oh you can imagine me now, my own little world that I had immersed myself in, completely ruined by one small question. I was furious at the sheer stupidity and quite literally shouted at the now startled person ‘WHAT COLOUR DO YOU THINK A PLUM IS YOU F*CKING MORON? YELLOW? IT’S PURPLE YOU T*T’ This, of course was not well received and started a massive row on the bus, thankfully some very helpful people who care about this kinda stuff more than me, broke up the row and the bus journey continued peacefully just with the occasional sound of pain from some year 7’s beating each other up. What a bright bunch of people.

My work brings me into close encounters with this standard idiocy, I have students claiming that you can get pregnant goldfish, students that think websites that are filtered are obviously the work of a malevolent and disgruntled IT Technician and nothing to do with automatic word filters, students that just push the boundries of stupidity by any means possible just to annoy me. Mind you I can’t just say that and not mentioning the vast quantities of people that are quite bright and helpful and do not ask silly things like ‘Can you help me with some homework?’ and then not explain a bloody thing.

Bring back national service I say.

Anyway, work is very tedious, being ill the last few weeks has thrown me off pace and I’m lagging far behind on the paperwork. ‘So why are you wasting your time writing on your blog?’ I hear you cry, the simple answer is that the paperwork I have to do is so dull and boring I have to have little breaks to sort myself out before the next onslaught of work so this is a nice way to vent myself.

Anyway, back to work,

toodle-pip!

Martin :)
